Description
Colin Speakman’s newest book Yorkshire – Ancient Kingdom, Future Province is a celebration of many aspects of the remarkable history of what was once an independent Anglo-Viking Kingdom, divided into the three “Ridings” – North, East and West, plus what for many centuries was England’s second city, York.
The book also celebrates Yorkshire’s magnificent landscapes, including its National Parks and Heritage Coast, its long-distance trails, its great cities, and its culture – the writers, thinkers, painters, poets of both the past and present.
But the book also looks at contemporary issues of identity and belonging, and how Yorkshire could become a vital, semi-autonomous Region of England taking a lead on such issues as combating climate change and developing new green technologies in post-Brexit Britain.
